Grooving with Grace

Getting into a groove, while giving myself grace.

This season of life has been all about growth. Growing as a new business owner. Growing as a wife. Growing as I move across the country. And, as always, continuing to grow as a child of God.

New routines, new rhythms, and new lessons have shaped my days to look much different than they did in years past. As a college student, I had a very structured schedule of classes, clubs, social events, and endless things to do. Now, as a graduate living far from many of the people I know and working as my own boss, I’ve had to adjust to a new pace of life.

When people ask me how working from home has been or how I’ve adjusted to starting my own business, I’ve recently said, “I’m grooving with grace.” Getting into a groove while trying to give myself grace.

It’s not easy creating your own schedule and being the only person responsible for keeping yourself accountable. It seems there are two common extremes: you either take advantage of the flexibility and struggle to be productive, or you put so much pressure on yourself that productivity begins to take over your life. I tend to fall into the latter. I am a perfectionist to a fault. I feel the need to always produce, to create something, or check off another task.

I feel incredibly blessed. I get to work from home, make my own hours, travel freely, and create art for a living. I don’t take any of that for granted, but with those blessings has come a lesson I’ve been learning: grace. Grace when I don’t check off every item on my to-do list. Grace when a day isn’t as productive as I hoped. Grace as I continue growing into this new profession and learning what it means to run a business well while glorifying God.

Practically giving myself grace has looked like assigning myself only what I can realistically accomplish in a day, celebrating progress instead of perfection, and remembering that my worth was never meant to be measured by my productivity. I’m learning that God isn’t asking me to have it all figured out. He’s not keeping score of my productivity or waiting for me to achieve some impossible standard of perfection. He’s simply asking me to be faithful, steward what’s in front of me, and trust Him.

Maybe you’re in a season of finding your rhythm too. Maybe your days look different than you imagined, or you’re learning to hold ambition and contentment in the same hand. If so, I hope you give yourself grace along the way. I pray you celebrate small victories, embrace slow growth, and remember that it’s okay to still be figuring things out.

We’re all just learning to groove with grace!

Saturate in Scripture

A new section of The Journal, giving you Truth to carry with you <3

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” –Matthew 11:28-30

As I continue learning to find my rhythm in this season, this scripture reminds me that God never asked me to carry the weight of perfection. He simply invites me to walk with Him. My prayer is that these verses remind you to lay down the pressure to prove yourself and instead receive the grace that has been yours all along.
