Married on the Amalfi Coast

Macy and Shawn’s Amalfi Coast wedding

Where do I even begin?

What started as a connection across the country online turned into a wedding day that had jaws on the floor.

I was incredibly fortunate to be trusted with not only photographing Macy and Shawn’s wedding in Italy, but also helping them plan it. When we first connected, they were in the very beginning stages of planning. They knew they wanted a wedding in Italy, but with so many beautiful locations and possibilities to choose from, the process of planning a destination wedding can quickly feel overwhelming.

Together, we landed on the Amalfi Coast. Having gotten married there myself the year before, I was especially excited to return somewhere that holds such a special place in my heart — this time for work, and with a completely different perspective.

As we searched through the countless stunning venues along the coast, I came across Grand Hotel Tritone. There was something about it that immediately felt different. Maybe it was the way nearly every corner of the property opens up to a view of the sea. Maybe it was the tasteful design, the decadent dining, or the incredibly kind staff. Or maybe it was just simply meant to be the place where Macy and Shawn began this next chapter together.

From start to finish, the team at Hotel Tritone went above and beyond to make the planning process seamless and to connect me with wonderful local vendors. As the wedding day approached, I felt confident that everything would come together beautifully.

After several weeks of traveling around Europe, I finally met Macy and Shawn in person at their rehearsal dinner. Immediately, they and their loved ones felt like a little piece of home (southern accent and all)! Their warmth and lightheartedness was contagious, and I knew it was going to be a fun week.

The wedding day began quietly, with Macy and Shawn reading handwritten notes from family and friends who couldn’t be there to celebrate in person. They then got ready separately in the hotel’s beautiful suites, surrounded by the anticipation and excitement of the day ahead.

In between photographing the details, the property, and a few drone shots, I spent time in Macy’s suite capturing the giddy, candid moments — the laughter, her friend doing her hair, and the excitement of knowing she was about to walk down the aisle.

The ceremony quickly approached and all the details came together perfectly. With the Amalfi Coast beside them, Macy and Shawn exchanged vows and committed their lives to one another. Tears were shed, laughter was shared, and joy filled the space as five guests gathered around them to celebrate their marriage.

After the ceremony, we headed into portraits. Just about every corner of Hotel Tritone is picturesque! We could have spent the entire evening wandering the property and taking photos, but eventually we had to pull ourselves away and head back up for cocktail hour!

Of course, the Italians reminded us that no celebration is complete without plenty of food. The aperitivo alone felt like it could have been dinner, but we happily continued on to one of the most delicious and scenic dinners imaginable. Between courses, conversation, and more memories made, the evening unfolded exactly as a wedding in Italy should. Completed with dancing and dessert, the day was a fairytale from start to finish.

Looking back through these photos and receiving the film scans has been a gift. Reliving this day on the coast has me overwhelmed with gratitude. Gratitude for this dream that I get to call my job. Gratitude for the opportunity to travel the world and document love in some of its most beautiful places. And gratitude for this life God has blessed me with.

Macy and Shawn, thank you for trusting me with your wedding day, your memories, and the planning process that brought it all together. May August 11 always be a day we remember fondly — a day that brought us together on the coast of Italy to celebrate the beginning of your life together! Cheers to the Morrises!

With love,

Elizabeth Ann
